At Al-Maqari Al-Qur’aniyyah UK, we are committed to empowering the next generation of Huffadh, Qur'an teachers, and Imams, nurturing both their recitation skills and character, so they may lead their communities with excellence and sincerity. Our vision is to establish an enduring legacy of Qur'anic recitation and teaching, firmly rooted in the methods and approaches of the classical scholars of Qur’anic sciences. This is not merely about the outward form of recitation, but about cultivating a deep connection to the Qur'an that transforms both heart and mind.
We aim to inspire a new generation of reciters and teachers to embody the principles of the Qur’an in their daily lives, following the way of the Prophet ﷺ, his companions, and the righteous predecessors. As Allah ﷻ tells us, “Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.” [Al-Isra: 9]
Our vision extends beyond the technical mastery of recitation to include personal development, fostering tarbiyah (nurturing) and tazkiyah (purification of the soul). This holistic approach encourages our students to become beacons of character, integrity, and leadership in their communities, standing as true ambassadors of the Qur'an in both word and deed.
We strive to create an environment where learning the Qur’an is not just about memorization, but about truly living the Qur’an — where students and teachers alike understand the importance of reflecting on its meanings (taddabur), acting upon its teachings, and developing a lifelong bond with it.
Our founder, Shaykh Musa AbuZaghleh, was born in the UK and raised in Jordan, where he spent 10 years under his Mashayikh there, learning and studying the Qur'an. Upon returning to the UK, he began teaching Qur’an and Tajweed, serving as an imam in various masajid and leading Taraweeh prayers each year. Shaykh Musa also continued his Qur’anic studies under Shaykh Galal Salem, obtaining an ijazah in the riwayah of Hafs ‘An ‘Asim.
Shaykh Musa is currently advancing his Qur’anic studies with the Mashayikh of Madinah, including Shaykh Dr. Abdullah Al-Jarullah and Shaykh Ibrahim Al-Akhdar, the Shaykhul Qurra of Masjid An-Nabawi. He has also studied with Shaykh Muhammad Abdul Hameed Aburawwash, obtaining an Ijazah in the riwayah of Hafs from the way of Shatibiyyah and Tayyibah. He also obtained an Ijazah from Shaykh Usama Abu Zayd in the Qira’ah of Imam ‘Asim.
Shaykh Musa founded Al-Maqari Al-Qur’aniyyah UK with the guidance and support of his Mashayikh in Madinah to mirror the Jam’iyyah Al-Maqari Al-Qur'aniyyah of Madinah and further their efforts in the UK and Europe, and to inspire and equip the next generation of Huffadh, Qur’an teachers, and imams using traditional methods of teaching to foster excellence in both recitation and character.
in essential to instilling the etiquettes of both teaching and learning, passed down from the Prophet ﷺ, his companions, and the righteous predecessors who followed them.
The halaqah provides not only an academic benefit but also offers tarbiyah (nurturing) and tazkiyah (purification), helping participants to embody the Quran. As the Prophet ﷺ's character was described: “His character was the Quran” (Muslim). This aspiration is what we aim to cultivate in our halaqat—reciters and teachers who reflect the Quran in both their words and actions.
